PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (July 11, 2007) - - Dave Duffield, the legendary founder of PeopleSoft and now Workday, will demonstrate his new company’s HR software against two industry leaders – Oracle and Lawson – in “The First HCM Battle” at the 10th Anniversary HR Technology Conference & Expo, Oct. 10-12, Chicago.
Duffield founded Workday soon after PeopleSoft fell to Oracle in a hostile takeover. “This event isn’t about beating Oracle,” Duffield said. “It’s about delivering better solutions.”
Oracle has the option of using PeopleSoft’s HR software or Oracle’s in the competition. Gretchen Alarcon, Oracle’s presenter and vice president of Global HCM Strategy, has not yet indicated which system she will use.
If she chooses PeopleSoft, Duffield will be competing against his very own product, though Oracle has enhanced it since the takeover more than two years ago.
Larry Dunivan, vice president, Global HCM Products, will present for Lawson, and
Christine Ferguson, Workday’s vice president, HCM Strategy, will co-present with CEO Duffield.
The Battle is designed to give attendees a side-by-side look at major HR software products and save them weeks of research. It has three sections, all featuring live software demonstrations. The first is a typical HR problem that all three companies must solve, written by Conference Co-Chair Bill Kutik, technology columnist for “Human Resource Executive.”
The second will be their solution to a problem they’ve each written themselves. The third will be a demonstration of their best leading edge functionality, which the Conference brochure calls “knock our socks off.”
“We call this event a ‘Battle’ because unlike the 10 Shootouts we’ve staged in the last seven years, there will be no voting,” said Conference Chairman David Shadovitz, editor and publisher of Human Resource Executive magazine.
“Since the demonstrations will be so different, there is no fair way to vote on them,” he said.
Kutik added, “But we have not abandoned our traditional Shootout format, our signature event. One of our other 36 sessions this year will be ‘The First Integrated Performance & Recruiting Shootout,’ which will include three problems we’ve written and attendees voting on the four leading vendors taking part.”
“We thought our traditional Shootout format did not allow attendees to see the best of these three vendors’ thought leadership and functionality, which really differentiates them. So we’re trying something new.”
The Conference is the country’s largest and leading event for all aspects of technology used in HR. The complete Conference program is available and can be downloaded at http://www.HRTechnologyConference.com/. Conference attendees registering prior to July 21, 2007 receive a special reduced rate.
